FADE IN:

INT. RESEARCH LAB - WORKING HOURS

CARL, 27, sits by his table, looking into the distance. ELISA, 32, sits at her own table too, yet she is focused on her work.

                        CARL

Do you ever wonder what it was

        like?

                        ELISA

        What?

                        CARL

        Home.

                        ELISA

        Not much.

                        CARL

        You know it’s winter right

        now?

                        ELISA

        Oh yeah?

                        CARL

        Yeah. It might even

        be snowing.

                        ELISA

        Cool.

Silence.

                        CARL

                (stands up)

        I need a break.

                        ELISA

        Well, you sure have been

        working hard.

Carl walks to the other side of the room. He takes a cup and waits for a machine to fill it with coffee. Elisa is still focused on her work.

                        CARL

        What’re you up to?

                        ELISA

        Not much.

                        CARL

        Yeah?

                        ELISA

        Yeah, just finishing up with

        this analysis. Should be

        ready soon.

                        CARL

        Great.

                        ELISA

        What about you?

                        CARL

        Not much.

                        ELISA

        Right.

Carl looks through the window next to the coffee machine. We can see now that we are in space. Countless stars decorate the view. But in the middle of it all there is a dark sphere that neither emits nor reflects light. Carl watches the sphere fascinated.

                        ELISA (CONT’D)

        You’re going to drink that?

                        CARL

        Hm?

                        ELISA

        Your coffee. It’s ready.

                        CARL

        Oh, right.

INT. AIRLOCK - SLEEPING HOURS

Carl, dressed in a space suit, presses a button. A door opens to the outside of the spaceship.

EXT. OUTSIDE THE SPACESHIP - CONTINUOUS

Carl takes a step and starts floating towards the sphere. But it does not look like Carl is getting closer to it. It looks like the sphere is getting bigger. It devours the space around itself. Carl’s radio TURNS ON.

                        ELISA (V.O.)

                (over radio)

        Carl, come inside.

But it’s too late.

INT. STORAGE CLOSET - MORNING

Carl drops on the floor. He groans. After a while he gets up. He takes his helmet off.

INT. HOUSE ENTRANCE - CONTINUOUS

Carl steps out of the storage closet. He is inside a beautiful house. The morning sun shines through big windows.

A young boy in a pyjama walks down the stairs. He sees Carl and stops halfway. He then resumes walking, watching Carl shyly. He stops at the bottom of the stairs.

Carl watches the boy for a moment and then walks to him calmly. He places his hands around the boy’s head. He then twists the head with force, SNAPPING the boy’s neck.

INT. KITCHEN - MORNING

Carl sits by a table, looking into the distance. A hand puts a bowl in front of him.

                        WOMAN (O.S.)

        Here Carl, now eat your

        breakfast!

Carl eats a spoonful of cereal, still unfocused.

                        WOMAN (O.S. CONT’D)

        Wait, it’s snowing now?

        No way!

Carl does not react. He takes another spoonful.

FADE OUT.

                THE END
